    United Synergies Mentoring Video

United Synergies VideoThis United Synergies mentoring video was produced in conjunction with the Griffith University Film School as part of a second year film student Community Engagement Project. The project took around six months from the initial presentation to the final product. The project was an opportunity to create a new and innovative way of recruiting potential mentors - creating a visual ‘snapshot’ of the mentoring program which gave it life and personality – and then identifying ongoing ways to promote it via the organisation’s website and through other mediums such as speaking opportunities, presentations etc. The process also provided an opportunity for at risk young people to be exposed to the experience of film making and working with other talented young students. It also was an opportunity to demonstrate to our existing mentors how much they are valued by the organisation.

Youth Mentoring Assisted Pathways Program - Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley Local Learning and Employment Network

YMAPYMAP is one of the longest-running and well-established in-school mentoring programs in the country. The Mentoring Program’s goal is to support young people identified by schools as being ‘at risk’. The program is primarily designed to help such young people to identify their goals and how to achieve them or re-connect with their education, help them to explore other educational options or help facilitate successful transition and employment pathways. In other words, to keep young people connected.

The Smith Family - Relationships for lifelong learning

TSFThis video provides an insight into The Smith Familys mentoring programs. Since 1995, they have been supporting disadvantaged students by linking them with volunteer mentors to help them make a smooth transition from school to work or further education. Mentoring helps young people gain a clearer idea of their abilities and interests, the opportunities available and the pathways needed to take advantage of these. Research shows that mentoring is one of the most effective ways of sharing knowledge within communities and providing a 'significant other' for those who are lacking positive role models.

    AIME Mentoring

AIMEAIME (Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience) provides a six-year Mentoring Program for Indigenous Australian students to access while undertaking their high school studies from Year 7 through to Year 12. AIME partners university student volunteers in a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a high school Indigenous student, for an hour a week over the course of a 17-week program. AIME's goals are to improve Year 10 completion rates, Year 12 completion rates and university admission rates for all participating students. Apart from the impact AIME is having on Indigenous high school students, it offers a significant opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous university students to gain invaluable experience working with Indigenous high school students, and offers a great base for university marketing and recruitment with AIME facilitating the development of long-term partnerships between local high schools and the university.
