The Network is an initiative of the National Youth Mentoring Partnership which consists of four not-for profit organisations (The Smith Family, Dusseldorp Skills Forum, Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia and Job Futures) and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. The Youth Mentoring Network aims to work with interested youth mentoring organisations and practitioners to foster the growth and development of high quality mentoring programs for young people in Australia by providing a national base of collaboration, support, guidance and expertise.

Result of the Latest YMN Poll
Topic: Does it make a difference if the mentor and the mentee are from the same cultural background? The vast majority (80%) said 'Yes', it does matter that the mentor and mentee are from the same cultural background. Many believed that it would be harder to make a match where the mentor and mentee are from different backgrounds. Those who answered in the affirmative also believed that communication would be enhanced if the mentoring pair was from the same background. Those who answered in the negative believed that cultural backgrounds should not matter if a pair was to develop a friendship and for a mentor to provide support.

Victorian Volunteer Small Grants
Grants of up to $5,000 are now available from the Victorian Government for not-for-profit organisations. The grants are aimed at organisations wanting to increase the diversity of their volunteers and/or involve or encourage new volunteers. Preference will be given to organisations with relatively small operating budgets.

Perth To Paradise - DONE!
Jack has cycled into Surfers Paradise to finish his epic across Australia bike ride - cycling 4,500 kms in just 30 days to raise funds and awareness of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia. The video is a wonderful snapshot of the journey from start to finish! We would like to congratulate Jack and his family.
